Where today the Costa D’Amalfi airport is located, an infrastructure on which the whole province of Salerno aims for a revival of the tourist presence, in 1926 it was decided to build an airfield established by decree by Italo Balbo.
The presence of the airfield determined the strategies of the Allied commands during 1943 and its conquest was one of the main objectives of military operations. Indeed, on 8th September the Germans had taken possession of it.
After some changes to the territorial administrative structure, today the airport falls within the municipality of Bellizzi.
