Administrative History Note: In February 1944, it was decided to set up an Advanced Amphibious Training Base at Salerno, Italy to train personnel for the landing planned in southern France rather than return the men and equipment to North Africa for training. Personnel and material for the new base were obtained from the training base at Arzew, Algeria. The base continued in operation until October 1944.;
